What Is Lunesta?

Insomnia Defined


Insomnia is a sleep disorder, and its consequences are more than just long nights. Sleep deprivation may have a direct impact on your quality of life and health, and if ignored, could lead to other medical conditions.

The medical definition
When most people hear the word "insomnia," they think it means getting no sleep at all. Well, that's not the case. The true definition, according to a nationally recognized medical publication is as follows:

  1. You must have at least one of the following symptoms:
    • Difficulty falling sleep
    • Difficulty staying asleep
    • Waking up too early in the morning
    • Waking up feeling unrefreshed

         AND

  1. Your sleeplessness has a negative impact on your daytime functioning, such as difficulty concentrating or irritability.

If you're experiencing these symptoms, you may have insomnia, and it's important that you talk to your doctor. Together you can determine the best sleep plan for you.

 

IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION:
Lunesta helps you fall asleep quickly, so take it right before bed. Be sure you have at least eight hours to devote to sleep before becoming active. Until you know how you'll react to Lunesta, you should not drive or operate machinery. Do not take Lunesta with alcohol. Call your doctor right away if after taking Lunesta you walk, drive, eat or engage in other activities while asleep. In rare cases, severe allergic reactions can occur. Most sleep medicines carry some risk of dependency. Do not use sleep medicines for extended periods without first talking to your doctor.
