You and your healthcare professional have decided that LUNESTA is right for you. Of course, as with most prescription medications, you may need to talk to your health insurer and pharmacist to find out what your plan covers and any requirements that you may need to meet. Remember, LUNESTA is the #1 prescribed branded sleep aid.‡ Millions of people have been prescribed LUNESTA and have successfully filled their prescriptions. And even if your health insurer has rules that apply to brand-name medications, your healthcare professional will work with you to get LUNESTA approved so you can start experiencing the restful sleep of a LUNESTA night.*
It may take a few days to hear from your health insurer. The good news is that you don't have to wait to get started with LUNESTA and get the restful sleep* you need. You can try 7 FREE nights of LUNESTA, with your healthcare professional's prescription.
Once you and your healthcare professional decide that LUNESTA is right for you, you've taken the first step toward getting the restful sleep* you need. Next, you'll want to make sure LUNESTA is covered by your plan.
Here's what you need to find out:
Before prescribing a particular medicine, your healthcare professional may be required to get advance approval from your health insurance company by submitting a special form. Your insurer should respond in about 7 days. Your physician may be able to provide you with samples while you wait to hear back.
Before approving LUNESTA for you, your health plan may require you to try an alternative medicine, usually a generic, before moving on to LUNESTA. This is called step therapy.
If you've already tried a generic sleep aid—even for 7 days—you may have met the criteria for step therapy and you can get your prescription for LUNESTA filled immediately. Talk to your healthcare professional or your health plan provider to make sure you understand any requirements (what medication and for how many days) you need to meet.
If your health plan limits coverage for brand-name medicines, you can still get LUNESTA. We offer special savings to help you try–or stay on–LUNESTA, so you can get the restful sleep* you need.
When you bring your prescription to your pharmacist, you may be told that a generic medication is available that may be less expensive. Remember, only LUNESTA is LUNESTA. There is no generic equivalent. Simply ask that your prescription for LUNESTA be filled as written by your physician.
If your healthcare professional has prescribed LUNESTA, don't let a co-pay stand in your way. The LUNESTA Rest for Less™ Savings Program allows you to save up to $50 on each of your next 12 prescription fills each calendar year, resulting in a $0 copay for many patients. Restrictions may apply. For complete details, see our program rules.
So if you're eligible for the Rest for Less Savings Program, your co-pay could actually be less than the cost of a generic. An activated co-pay card is all you need to get LUNESTA for as low as a $0 co-pay. †
When you talk with your pharmacist, it may help to explain that:
What if your pharmacist tells you LUNESTA is not covered by your plan?
Follow up with your healthcare professional about any questions you may have. Your healthcare professional will work with you to meet your insurer's requirements and guide you through the approval process.

Lunesta® (eszopiclone) is a prescription sleep medicine used in adults for the treatment of a sleep problem called insomnia. Symptoms of insomnia include trouble falling asleep and waking up often during the night.
LUNESTA acts quickly, so take it right before bed, and only if you have 8 hours to devote to sleep. Until you know how you will react to LUNESTA, you should not drive or operate machinery. Call your healthcare professional if your insomnia worsens or is not better within 7 to 10 days. This may mean that there is another condition causing your sleep problems. Walking, eating, driving, or engaging in other activities while asleep without remembering it the next day have been reported. Other abnormal behaviors include aggressiveness, agitation, hallucinations, and confusion. In depressed patients, worsening of depression including risk of suicide may occur. These risks may increase if you drink alcohol. Severe allergic reactions such as swelling of the tongue and throat occur rarely and may be fatal. Call your healthcare professional if you experience these or any effects or reactions that concern you. LUNESTA, like most sleep medicines, carries some risk of dependency. Side effects may include unpleasant taste, headache, morning drowsiness, and dizziness. For more information, please see the LUNESTA Medication Guide.
